For our second meal, we wanted to pay tribute to our childhood with an easy dish: Ramen, from the Studio Ghibli Movie Ponyo.
There is a notable scene, where Ponyo encounters noodles for the first time, and we all remember getting hungry from seeing this tasty dish. So, we decided to make it, and feature one of our favorite ingredients: Steve the Green Onion! |
Recipe:
- Dice green onions into size of choice.
- Slice the spam into sheets.
- Open the packs of ramen, separate the vegetable and sauce packet from the noodles.
- In a pot, boil Vegetable or Chicken Stock, and add packaged vegetables/toppings from ramen pack. Add soy sauce to taste, then bring to a simmer. You can turn off the heat, so long as the soup remains hot when serving.
- Add sesame oil into a saucepan. Heat the oil and fry spam or ham sheets. Put aside.
- In another pot, boil water and cook instant ramen. Soup base will not be used, but save packages vegetables/toppings. Drain noodles, and set aside.
- Optional: Boil one egg for 12 minutes, peel and halve.
- Pour cooked stock into a bowl, then ramen into soup. Plate with fried spam musubi and green onions for garnish. (For those who want to go all out, plate the egg as well.)
